PRESS RELEASE: ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a global leading provider of integrated information and communication technology solutions, has partnered with China National Gold Group Tibet Huatailong Mining Company(hereafter referred to as Huatailong), China Unicom, and other collaborators to successfully launch Tibet’s first 5G high-altitude smart mine. The project, which commenced operations today, represents a significant milestone in the region’s mining industry.
This project primarily provides 5G+ unmanned services for underground transportation sections 4490#, 4450#, 4440#, and others. It also offers 5G+ unmanned mine card services for the open-air transportation section at an altitude of 5,300 meters.
The project has overcome many technical challenges and networking difficulties, establishing Tibet’s first high-altitude unmanned and intelligent mining system under harsh conditions, including high altitude, cold temperatures, lack of oxygen, and adverse weather. It has successfully achieved the goal of wireless underground communication and unmanned production for Huatailong.
In this project, ZTE’s 5G equipment is used to build Huatailong’s underground integrated independent private network. The equipment includes 5G core network components, 5G wireless devices (outdoor macro stations, underground dedicated PAD, QCELL, etc.), 5G transmission equipment, nomadic base stations, and 5G industrial-grade CPE.
Notably, the introduction of ZTE’s nomadic base station products has been highly praised by customers for delivering an excellent communication experience and efficient wireless signal coverage to the mobile mining faces within the mines.
The systems implemented in this project have delivered significant practical benefits to the enterprise. For example, the deployment of the 5G network has reduced network maintenance costs and fault handling time. The intelligent AI-based monitoring system for the belt has minimized downtime caused by belt replacement, increasing transportation volume by 38.5 tons per year.
The Tibet Huatailong 5G Smart Mine Project is the first 5G SA private network construction project in Tibet, receiving high praise from Huatailong. It has achieved significant breakthroughs in both scale and benefits, setting an industry benchmark and serving as a demonstration project in the context of national mine intelligence.
ZTE and China Unicom Tibet have designed a tailored smart mine solution based on 5G for Huatailong. They constructed a new network architecture based on “5G+ industrial network + 10G ring network” to enable comprehensive access and data collection from production factors, including equipment, systems, and sensors.
This project also creates a new mining infrastructure with “cloud + big data + artificial intelligence + information security” as the core. It offers a model for the development of intelligent projects in the mining, cement, and building materials industries in high-altitude regions.
