PRESS RELEASE: ZTE Corporation in partnership with China Telecom, has released a 5G-Adavanced solution, the User-driven Generative Network (UGN) solution, at MWC Barcelona 2025.

UGN deeply integrates RAN native-AI and the concept of cell-free architecture, intelligently generating radio resources scheduling and collaboration strategies based on diverse service requirements, providing users with more personalized and ubiquitous connected experience.

With the rapid development of 5G, artificial intelligence and big data, communication networks are accelerating towards the mobile AI era. Traditional network architectures struggle to meet the ever-increasing user demands and diverse application scenarios. To address this, ZTE and China Telecom have collaborated closely, proposing the “Panoramic Intelligence” network evolution direction. This vision aims to deeply integrate communication and AI technologies, generating network capabilities on demand, providing superior network performance and personalized user experiences, and empowering future AI applications.

UGN represents a crucial first step towards the “Panoramic Intelligence” target network. To address the discontinuous experience inherent in traditional cellular architectures, UGN leverages RAN native-AI, enabling base stations to function as intelligent engines with enhanced “perception, generation, and digital twin” capabilities. With AI-driven perception, UGN gains a deep understanding of both service demands and wireless channels. Leveraging generation, UGN generates user-centric service policies in real time, significantly enhancing the depth and accuracy of multi-cell collaboration. This includes optimized multi-cell joint beamforming, uplink/downlink independent scheduling, and mobility enhancement, maximizing the potential of 5G-A networks. The integrated digital twin capability facilitates performance evaluation and iterative optimization in a virtual environment, ensuring the effectiveness of these policies before real-world deployment.

Huang Lilian, Managing Director of 5G Network Development and Sharing Department of China Telecom, stated: “Artificial intelligence is a strategic technology leading a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation. With synergy of AI and 5G-A commercial networks, we can unlock new network value and drive the industry towards greater efficiency and intelligence. The UGN solution represents our effective exploration and practice in this direction. We have already completed UGN trials in the Yangtze River Delta region and achieved significant performance improvements across various scenarios. We believe that UGN will propel intelligent living and intelligent production to new heights, laying a solid foundation for the arrival of AI applications such as AIGC and embodied AI.”

Zhang Wanchun, Senior Vice President of ZTE, commented: “The world has entered an era of AI-driven industrial revolution. Leveraging our profound technical expertise in the ICT field, ZTE is actively integrating its advantages with AI technologies to drive the iterative evolution of 5G-A. The UGN solution pioneers the deep integration of AI and the cell-free concept, realizing user-centric intelligent generative services, achieving breakthroughs in several key technologies, and triggering a new paradigm shift in communication services. We believe this intelligent network architecture will lead the evolution of future communication technologies, creating richer application experiences and broader connection possibilities for global users.”

Moving forward, ZTE and China Telecom will continue to collaborate closely with global partners to jointly promote the technological evolution and large-scale deployment of “Panoramic Intelligence” networks, accelerating the construction of an intelligently connected future, empowering the digital transformation of industries, and co-creating a better connected world.
