British mobile operators Vodafone UK and O2 UK said their first shared site has gone live. Vodafone’s equipment was added to an O2 base station to increase Vodafone’s coverage of a section of the M4 motorway. Vodafone will remove its own nearby cell site shortly and claimed the benefits of sharing are already apparent: “the whole process from planning to implementation [was] completed in 11 weeks, compared to nine months for a typical standalone site”.
