Opera Software moved to address “additionally voiced concerns” following news that it is set to be acquired by a consortium of Chinese companies.
It said that with the deal still pending, “in any resulting scenario, Opera will remain the Norwegian company you know and love”.
Karin Greve-lsdahl, VP of communications, said: “Opera plans to continue operating as a standalone company. We are a Norwegian company subject to Norwegian (EU/EEA) privacy laws. Our shareholders may change but our legal obligations in this respect will not”.
Opera announced the deal last week, with Chinese internet firms Kunlun and Qihoo in on the deal, alongside investment firms Golden Brick and Yonglian.
It said there is a “strong strategic and industrial logic” for the move.
