Telefonica’s Vivo has struck an agreement with the Medical School Foundation, a private body set up by the University of São Paulo’s Faculty of Medicine, to jointly develop a number of digital health services.
The mobile operator, the largest in Brazil, will include material developed by the University in services it offers to subscribers. This will include text-based, graphical and audio material.
In addition, the university will give Vivo access to videos produced by its Virtual Human Project, which are sequences of dynamic 3D views of the human body.
In the future, additional services could include providing medical books, courses, seminars and conferences as cloud content.
The new alliance is another sign of Telefonica building its presence in the Brazilian health market. Earlier this year the operator acquired a controlling stake in Brazil’s largest chronic care management company.
Brazil is one of the main markets that Telefonica is targeting for health services. The others include Chile, UK and Spain.
