5G technologies are maturing and have brought us to the forefront of the next generation in communications technology.
In the 5.5G era, microwave transmission technologies face the challenges of limited spectrum resources and surging capacity demand, as well as the need to support smooth evolution from 4G to 5.5G in order to protect operators’ existing investments. These challenges push microwave technologies to the limit and drive industry players like Huawei to make innovations and breakthroughs. The microwave industry is growing steadily, driven by advancements in 5G technologies. Since the beginning of 2024, Huawei has worked steadfastly in the innovation of microwave bandwidth capability, spectral efficiency, and hardware simplification, for which it is earning significant industry recognition.
Bandwidth Capability: MAGICSwave Ushers in a New Era of 25 Gbps Ultra-Bandwidth Microwave
In 2024, Huawei launched the ground-breaking MAGICSwave solution. Through cross-generational technology innovation, the solution is able to achieve up to 25 Gbps capacity per site. The solution also employs true broadband and ultra-long-haul technologies to significantly improve backhaul efficiency in urban areas that require large capacity and suburban areas that require long-distance transmission. With its high degree of integration, the MAGICSwave platform is poised to support cost-effective technology evolution in the next decade and solidify Huawei’s position as a leader in 5.5G ultra-broadband wireless transmission.
Spectral Efficiency: SuperHub Reduces Spectrum Usage by 50%, Setting a New Industry Benchmark
Huawei’s SuperHub solution significantly improves spectral efficiency and link capacity by allowing microwave spectrum to be reused across multiple links with a separation as low as 15 degrees. In a joint project between Huawei and Ufone Pakistan, the SuperHub solution helped Ufone greatly boost microwave spectral efficiency, resulting in a 50% reduction in spectrum usage and eliminating all signal interference. In recognition of its achievements, the project was the recipient of the GSMA GLOMO “Best Mobile Innovation for Emerging Markets” award at MWC Barcelona 2024.
Hardware Simplification: 2T E-band ODU Clinches the Red Dot Design Award and iF Design Award with Its Ultimate Fusion of Tech and Design
Huawei XMC-80D — a next-generation 2T E-band outdoor unit (ODU) — uses state-of-the-art algorithms to improve coding efficiency. A single unit delivers up to 25 Gbps bandwidth with dual-channel and dual-polarized transmission. It halves the hardware required while increasing link capacity by an impressive 150% compared to conventional solutions. The split design of the XMC-80D allows for service switching through the backplane, which optimizes the main control service interfaces and enables support for flexible capacity expansion and smooth evolution. Moreover, the product features an innovative heat dissipation structure and ergonomic handles. In recognition of its captivating fusion of cutting-edge technologies and elegant design, the product was awarded the 2024 Red Dot Design Award and the 2024 iF Design Award.
MBBF 2024 Preview: What New Surprises Does Huawei Have in Store for the Microwave Industry?
In the 5.5G era, how will microwave transmission technologies maximize spectral efficiency based on a single-site capacity of 25 Gbps? How will they cope with limited tower space and harsh transmission environments? Huawei will demonstrate how at the upcoming MBBF by showcasing its innovative solution that can improve spectral efficiency by two times and its new long-haul solution that can bring continual performance improvements with much less hardware. During the forum, Huawei will also demonstrate how to maintain highly reliable microwave links to ensure always-online transmission in extreme environments.
The 15th Global Mobile Broadband Forum, with a tagline of ‘5.5G Leads Mobile AI Era’, will run from October 30 to 31 in Istanbul, Türkiye. It will be hosted by Huawei with support from our industry partners GSMA and GTI. Together with operators, vertical industry leaders, and ecosystem partners, we will share the industry’s latest advancements and explore new opportunities.
