Fashion app developer Threadflip has secured US$6.5 million in Series A funding, as it launched its app for the iOS platform.

The San Francisco-based company plans to use the funding to build its team and improve the user experience of its platform with a number of new services. Threadflip’s funding now totals US$8.1 million.

Threadflip is a social marketplace for discovering, buying and selling fashion items. Users can use the platform to sell clothing and acquire new items.

The current funding round was led by Shasta Ventures, with participation from Lowercase Capital and existing investors First Round Capital, Baseline Ventures, Slow Ventures, Forerunner Ventures, Greylock Discovery Fund and Andreessen Horowitz Seed Fund. Shasta Ventures’ Tod Francis has joined Threadflip’s board of directors.

The new iOS app allows users to access the marketplace tools from their smartphone, upload images of items they want to sell and share their activity on social networks.
