Pinterest partnered with Telefonica Digital in a global deal which will “bring Pinterest to millions of Telefonica’s Android customers” across Europe and Latin America.

O2’s UK network will be the first to offer access to an exclusive Pinterest widget, with other participating markets to follow soon, through Telefonica’s O2, Vivo and Movistar units.

The widget shows the most popular posted items and provides a personal feed and instant notifications to signed-in users.

It has been built specifically for Telefonica and will be pre-installed on its Android devices. It will also be available via O2 Recommends and the Android widget folder, along with other channels.

Telefonica is Pinterest’s first operator partner, and with a reach of 250 million connections, represents a huge audience which the social network can tap into to grow its user base.

“Telefonica is one of the world’s most advanced communications companies, and together we can provide a one-of-a-kind mobile experience to new and existing pinners around the globe,” said Pinterest head of operations, Don Faul.

Pinterest has thrived in the markets covered by Telefonica, having seen a 130 per cent increase in monthly active users from Latin America and the UK since the beginning of the year.

Productivity app maker Evernote is another company promoting its mobile service through a partnership with Telefonica. Vivo in Brazil was the first brand to offer customers the chance to sign up for Evernote Premium accounts for free for one year.
