Chinese vendor Huawei has struck another major blow to its western rivals, with news this morning that it has won an LTE network deal at Net4Mobility, the Swedish joint venture of Tele2 and Telenor.

Verizon Wireless yesterday introduced Verizon Wi-Fi, a way for its mobile broadband customers to access thousands of Wi-Fi hotspots at no additional charge.

TeleGeography notes that Russia’s three largest mobile operators by subscribers, MTS, VimpelCom and MegaFon, have been given permission to launch outdoor 3G services in Moscow.

TeliaSonera today launched the world’s first commercial LTE networks, a major development that sees the Nordic operator steal a march in this heavily-hyped sector. The operator has switched on networks in Oslo, Norway (using kit from Huawei) and Stockholm, Sweden (using equipment from Ericsson).

Huawei today announced a successful live trial of LTE technology with Telefónica O2 UK, claimed to be the first fully operational operator LTE trial in the UK.

The Press Trust of India has reported that the country’s telecoms minister is insistent the long-delayed 3G auctions will take place on 14 January. "There is no change in [the] auction schedule," said Andimuthu Raja.
