Saudi Telecom (STC) is reported to be in the running for a new mobile licence being issued in Syria, which Reuters describes as “one of the few countries in the region with low mobile penetration and promising growth chances.” Other participants in the process are believed to include Turkcell and Zain, while the market already has two operators active – MTN (South Africa) and locally-owned Syriatel.
