Microsoft is working with a contract manufacturer to develop a smartphone using its Windows Phone 8 operating system, according to Rick Sherlund, an analyst at investment consultancy Nomura. However, the analyst said in his note that it is unclear whether it would be a reference device or a Microsoft-branded device that would be sold to consumers. The rumour follows Microsoft’s unveiling of its Surface tablet computer last week.
