Microsoft previewed the next version of its Windows computer operating system, Windows 8, for partners, demonstrating how the platform is “optimised for newer touch-centric hardware, including tablets.” It also showcased the ability to run on both X86 and ARM silicon architectures, the latter being the preferred option for hardware-constrained devices including tablets and mobile internet devices. Microsoft is working with chipmakers including AMD, Intel, Nvidia, Qualcomm and TI.
