PRESS RELEASE: Operators in Angola have extensively employed Huawei’s FDD Massive MIMO on their networks as they go all out to meet the demands of rapidly growing data traffic. The FDD Massive MIMO solution features industry-leading ultra-wideband and multi-antenna beamforming performance. Following their deployment, user experience has doubled and data traffic has increased by 162%.
In recent years, Sub-Saharan Africa has become one of the world’s fastest growing regions in terms of 4G traffic, registering a rapid switch to 4G technology, and this is particularly true in Angola. This truly hammers home the importance of mobile operators finding effective solutions to alleviate congestion and ensure optimal coverage and experience. Since 2023, operators in Angola have partnered with Huawei to deploy FDD Massive MIMO across the county’s major cities and hotspots. The results have been remarkable. Tests on the live network concluded 3.5 times greater capacity than the previous 4T4R, facilitating the quick realization of 4G users’ pent-up demands for more data traffic. While boosting the service revenue of operators, the scaled FDD Massive MIMO deployments also lay the groundwork for them to meet increasing traffic demand over the next three years. Furthermore, the deployments pave the way for 5G development as operators continue to deliver premium experiences to all users throughout the country.
The deployments were based on Huawei’s new FDD Massive MIMO product AAU5768. This product supports ultra-large capacity and incorporates a unique M-Receiver solution to improve uplink coverage by 10 dB and uplink speeds tenfold compared with 4T4R. These impressive improvements put it a strong position to help operators build high-performance networks.
Huawei’s AAU5768 is a lightweight module that can be easily deployed to extend mobile network coverage to users across various scenarios, including those in which users perform services indoors. Huawei is fully committed to supporting better mobile connections, both in Angola and the rest of the world, through continuous innovation.
