PRESS RELEASE: At LEAP 2025, Fang Xiang, Vice President of Huawei Wireless Network Product Line, delivered a keynote speech titled “Embracing Mobile AI 2030: Accelerating Sustainable Development in Smart Saudi Arabia.”
He shared insights on the thriving development of the mobile AI industry chain and outlined a grand vision for a future society.
Mobile AI Is Changing Lives
We are entering the second phase of rapid growth for AI in the industry, alongside the rapid evolution of 5G-Advanced (5G-A). The fast-paced development of AI and the quick advancements in 5G-A are creating a powerful chemical reaction. The deep integration of 5G-A and AI technologies marks the dawn of the “Mobile AI Era,” which will have profound implications for various industries. The AI-driven transformation of mobile services is giving rise to new business models, breaking through traditional scenario limitations. AI-powered applications such as search tools, virtual teachers, and tour guides are becoming widely integrated into people’s daily lives. The mobilization of AI services is leading the development of new mobile formats, such as smart cars and robots, injecting new vitality into society and presenting unprecedented development opportunities for the mobile industry.
Three Significant Intelligent Transformations Expected by 2030
Fang forecasted three groundbreaking changes for the coming years.
The first is the transition of human-machine interaction from touch-based to omni-modal, including natural language, gestures, and emotions, ensuring 24/7 intelligent experience for users.
Second, content production will evolve from static preparation to dynamic, real-time customization, catering to personalized needs as people shift from traditional ways of searching for information to consuming AI-generated content (AIGC). AIGC will drive the creation of omni-modal content like 3D and spatial videos, increasing interactive information by over 100 times and enabling constant, on-demand content generation.
Third, mobile devices will expand from smartphones to AI assistant devices and embodied AI, providing access to all-scenario intelligent services. Moreover, network connectivity will extend from people to AI devices, creating tens of billions of new connections and ushering in a new era of human-machine convergence.
Huawei Is Building a Digital Foundation
By 2030, the cost of a single inference via mobile AI will be almost as low as a voice call, bringing embodied AI to every household.
– The evolution to multi-modal and real-time human-machine interactions will necessitate a tenfold improvement in uplink experience, broaden connections from human-to-human to include human-to-machine and machine-to-machine, and diversify interaction modes from voice and text to hybrid forms such as digital voice, machine vision, and biosensing.
– For humans and machines to truly collaborate seamlessly, moving beyond simple seeing and hearing to coordination, the end-to-end communication latency must be kept between 400 and 600 milliseconds.
“Mobile AI is a must, not an option,” Fang emphasized. To facilitate Saudi Arabia’s adoption of mobile AI, Huawei is helping build a world-leading 5G-A network in the country. It is evolving all frequency bands to 5G to maximize the advantages of high-band, mid-band, and low-band spectrum in wide coverage, large uplink, and low latency. This will accelerate the advent of human-level mobile AI that is accessible to anyone from anywhere. Huawei is also supporting operators with integrating AI-based telecom foundation models into their networks to achieve Level-4 autonomy, resulting in higher network quality, spectral efficiency, and energy efficiency.
Built on Huawei’s cutting-edge 5G-A technologies, Saudi Arabia’s building globally leading 5G-A infrastructure, distinguished by high energy efficiency and low operational costs. This collaboration envisions a 10 Gbps society that embraces mobile AI and an intelligent economy by 2030.
