Outlines How the Mobile Industry Can Lower Emissions in Other Sectors by Over 4.5 Times Mobile's Own Footprint

The GSMA, which represents the interests of the worldwide communications industry, today announced the winners of the first phase of its Embedded Mobile competition, which was created as part of the GSMA's Embedded Mobile Initiative.

The GSMA, the body that represents the worldwide mobile communications industry, today revealed the details of six additional grants from the Mobile Money for the Unbanked Fund (MMU), which is administered by the GSMA Foundation, Inc.

Filipino mobile operator Smart Communications scooped three awards at this year’s GSMA Asia Mobile Awards, which were announced last night.

GSMA CEO Rob Conway revealed the three winners of the GSMA’s embedded mobile module competition in his opening keynote address this morning.

At a press conference this afternoon the GSMA, together with China Mobile, Huawei and The Climate Group, unveiled an initiative that aims to see the mobile industry lower its greenhouse gas emissions and demonstrate the role the market can play in lowering emissions in other sectors and industries.

The GSMA kicked off its Mobile Asia Congress event this week with news that the region will cross the 2 billion mobile connections threshold by the end of the year and will exceed 3 billion connections by 2013.
