PRESS RELEASE: During MWC Shanghai 2024, industry leaders, ecosystem partners, and operators gathered at the 5G New Momentum Roundtable to explore the new value and technological innovations of 5G and 5.5G networks.
The Roundtable was opened by Fang Xiang, Vice President of Huawei Wireless Network Product Line. “This year, as 5G goes through its fifth year of commercial use in China, 5.5G commercial launch has begun and AI has seen its first play in mobile devices. The recent sweeping progress of AI is enabling industries to quickly adopt more intelligent solutions. AI in mobile devices not only makes content generation more efficiently and smartly, but needs networks to provide stronger capabilities, such as large uplink, low latency, and wide coverage,” explained Fang in his opening remarks. “This has pushed ourselves for new breakthroughs in GigaGreen for 5.5G to fulfill these new requirements and explore new value and opportunities in the new era of mobile AI.”
New Momentum in Service Development
5.5G and AI are injecting new life into emerging services in terms of content creation, interaction transformation, and adaptation to more capable terminals. These trends are a prologue to soaring mobile data traffic, which places high demands on networks and allows operators to diversify how they monetize network capability.
New Momentum in Network Construction
Network construction was the focus of leading operators, including China Unicom, China Telecom Shanghai, and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, when they shared their 5G and 5.5G network practices. The takeaways were impressive. Firstly, maximizing the advantages of all bands and key 5.5G technologies is essential to supporting service customization and meeting diverse experiences. Secondly, as services diversify, network planning needs to pivot from wide coverage to in-depth coverage to cover all domains, not just a few scenarios. Finally, enhancing multi-antenna capabilities is key to increasing network capacity and energy efficiency with the optimal TCO.
New Momentum in Technological Innovation
Huawei discussed the importance of GigaGreen for the technological innovation of 5.5G. 5.5G GigaGreen incorporates ultra-wideband, multi-band serving cell (MBSC), multi-antenna, and other technologies to implement resource pooling in the power, frequency, and spatial domains. It enables networks to provide large uplink and low latency and bring coverage to all scenarios based on a simplified, green architecture that was designed for maximum experience and spectral efficiency. With these capabilities, 5.5G GigaGreen empowers operators to maximize the value of their existing spectrum and unlock new value through experience-driven operations, fostering sustained growth and productivity.
MWC Shanghai 2024 will be held from June 26 to June 28 in Shanghai, China. During the event, Huawei will showcase its latest products and solutions at stands E10 and E50 in Hall N1 of the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). 2024 will mark the first year of commercial 5.5G, and F5.5G gigabit optical network deployment has already begun. Synergies across networks, cloud, and intelligence are set to give rise to pervasive intelligent applications and increasingly diverse user experiences. Together with global operators, industry professionals, and opinion leaders, Huawei will dive into exciting topics at this year’s MWC Shanghai, like how to amplify 5G’s success in the 5.5G era and how to tap into the potential of operator revenue growth to bring us even faster to the intelligent world.
