Motorola has offloaded its enterprise-focused push email business, Good Technology, to push email specialist Visto for an undisclosed sum. In a statement, Visto said the deal should close by the end of the month and would “complement Visto’s strong operator presence in business and consumer markets.” CEO Brian A. Bogosian said the acquisition would allow Visto to target its solution at customers in over 100 countries, on over 400 different mobile devices. According to Visto, Good is working with “thousands of enterprises” via its relationships with US mobile operators, including many of the Fortune 500 companies.

Motorola acquired Good Technology in November 2006 in a bid to strengthen its presence in the mobile email enterprise space. However, the sale appears to be prompted by the wide-ranging cost cutting programme currently underway at the beleaguered vendor. “We believe that this transaction is in the best interest of our customers, employees and shareholders,” said Gene Delaney, president of Motorola’s Enterprise Mobility Solutions unit.
