Network Operators know that their current method of designing and deploying mobile networks will not hold up to future demand. There are multiple waves of change sweeping the network and accelerating the growth in traffic, devices and edge locations.

In this paper Heavy Reading takes a look at the evolutionary path the carriers are on – the technologies that have yielded benefits and those – often the same ones – that have fallen short of expectations. We look at some of the emerging greenfield and 5G networks and how some of their innovative strategies may hold a key to the design of future telco networks in a world that has moved beyond simply connecting people to one in which “always-on” access to digital services is a basic need.
