PRESS RELEASE: In August 2024, the Nanjing Binjiang 5G Intelligent Factory (hereinafter referred to as “Binjiang Factory”), jointly built by China Telecom and ZTE Corporation, officially passed the evaluation of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (hereinafter referred to as “CAICT”) and was awarded the first five-star 5G factory certification in China. This achievement marks a new milestone in the deep integration and comprehensive application of 5G technologies and electronic equipment manufacturing.
Continuous Improvement and Optimization: Since its operation in 2020, the Binjiang Factory has been guided by the concept of “manufacturing 5G with 5G” and has built a high-quality 5G network. It was also selected as a demonstration project for 5G application improvement in national new infrastructure construction in 2020. Adhering to the 5G factory certification and evaluation standards, the Binjiang Factory has continuously improved and optimized its operations, accelerated the transformation of 5G equipment, further enhanced the circulation of production elements, and deepened the integration of 5G with various production elements and processes.
5G Network Coverage and Performance: Currently, the 5G network coverage in the factory has reached 100%. In scenarios with stringent requirements for 5G network performance, such as remote device control, the Binjiang Factory actively explored 5G industrial field network construction solutions. The successful deployment of these solutions in the automated test and production sites of QCell products demonstrated the reliability of the 5G network, achieving the latency of 10 [email protected]%. This sets a benchmark for the commercial application of 5G in the industrial sector.
Extensive Application of 5G Technologies: The Binjiang Factory has achieved a network connection rate of over 97% for on-site equipment, with 100% connectivity for key equipment. Notably, the 5G network connection rate has reached 89.3%, and all wireless devices are now 5G-based. Throughout the entire process from R&D design, production and manufacturing, testing and monitoring, warehousing and logistics, to operation management, the Binjiang Factory has extensively applied 5G technologies. This includes the utilization of robots, AGVs, digital twins, machine vision, AI, and XR technologies. By leveraging the ZTE DigitalNebula Platform, the factory has integrated 5G industrial production into 24 categories and more than 120 scenarios, showcasing innovative applications and driving digital transformation.
Remarkable Achievements and Recognition: Based on comprehensive 5G reconstruction, the automation efficiency, process optimization level, and lean production scale of the Binjiang Factory have witnessed significant improvements. The total output value of the factory has increased by 41%, the per capita output value has risen by 81%, the delivery period has been shortened from 20 days to 14 days, the carbon emissions have been reduced by 29%, and the energy consumption of a single product has been reduced by 19%. Notably, the network construction and business scenario solutions developed by the Binjiang Factory have been successfully replicated in diverse industries, including electronics manufacturing, mining, steel, ports, and aviation, further promoting the large-scale application of 5G technologies. As a leading example of 5G+ industrial Internet, the Binjiang Factory has garnered numerous domestic and international accolades, including the gold prize of the 5th Blooming Cup Benchmark Competition, the first prize of the 4th Blooming Cup Award, the WSIS 2022 Champion Award, the top 10 5G application cases at the World 5G Conference 2021. In 2023, the factory was listed in the 5G Factory Catalog. To date, it has received over 2000 enterprises and institutions and more than 30000 visits for offline exchanges, generating significant societal impact.
Embracing New Technologies and 5G-A: In 2023, the output value of the Binjiang Factory exceeded 50 billion, contributing to the GDP growth and coordinated development of the industry chain in Jiangning District, Nanjing. With the advent of the 5G-A era, the Binjiang Factory is actively embracing new technologies. It continues to explore the application of key technologies such as millimeter wave, RedCap, deterministic network, and network intelligence in innovative scenarios. Furthermore, the factory has established a 5G-A low-altitude sensing demonstration area in the Nanjing Binjiang Development Zone. This area enables comprehensive perception of low-altitude drones and ground vehicle personnel, ensuring the intelligent operation of the park.
