PRESS RELEASE: Recently, China Mobile Yancheng and Huawei completed the test and verification of the innovative Integrated Pisa Antenna solution along the Xuzhou-Yancheng high-speed railway. The test results well revealed a more accurately radiated energy along the railway, compared to conventional solutions. Along the high-speed railway, it showed 3-5dB higher network coverage performance and 30% increase in network speed while at the same time kept the same energy consumption. This set the new incomparable user experience benchmark to be more fast, reliable and available in green 5G high-speed railway networks.

As the economy rebounds and the number of travelers surges, high-speed railways, acting as mobile hotspots, experience a marked increase in network service demands. The traditional railway site utilizes two antennas to cover the incoming and outgoing directions along the tracks. It is challenging to concentrate the radio energy closely along the track and the outward dissipation of energy is very high. This results in poor user experience especially in the region under tower and close to cell edge. Additionally, the nearby residents often suffer from the network interference from the dedicated railway networks. In fact, with the rising demand as well as the increasing traffic volume in public networks, this interference issue becomes more and more challenging between dedicated railway private networks and public networks.

The 5G Integrated Pisa Antenna deployed by China Mobile Yancheng and Huawei together features an innovative design which integrates two antenna arrays into one single antenna. The Integrated Pisa Antenna thus enables a unique inter-sector power sharing scheme where the power is dynamically adapted in the two radio units according to the running position of the train on the track so as to effectively enhance coverage between two towers. Moreover, the Integrated Pisa Antenna uses the unique horizontal rolling technology to enable the antenna energy to be accurately focused on the track. This solves the problem of weak signals under towers and largely reduces the interference to public network users in the surrounding areas. Additionally Integrated Pisa Antenna doubles the number of channels without increasing the antenna size, resulting in 50% higher deployment efficiency.

The successful verification of this solution by China Mobile Yancheng paves the way for the construction of premier 5G high-speed railway networks not just in China, but globally. Moving forward, China Mobile Yancheng and Huawei are committed to continuously developing more energy-efficient, effective, and performant 5G mobile networks that can help bolster Yancheng’s social and economic growth and enhance residents’ quality of life.
