PRESS RELEASE: China Mobile Sichuan and Huawei jointly completed the first commercial application of 100 intelligent site digitalized unit (iSDU) green site solution in Chengdu, Sichuan. This commercial application of iSDU enables intelligent detection of power supply and base station services and can wake up dormant RF modules on demand to maximize energy efficiency without performance degradation. Test results on the live network show that the iSDU reduces energy use by 32.8% per day while doubling O&M efficiency.
Guided by the national “dual-carbon” strategy, China Mobile is committed to enabling the green transformation of networks by exploring innovative solutions for energy conservation and emissions reduction. China Mobile and Huawei’s green site solution enables intelligent site dormancy and visualized O&M. This improves energy and O&M efficiency and enables green network development.
Intelligent dormancy: The iSDU can detect service changes and perform intelligent association with the site power system. When traffic is low, the iSDU enables RF module dormancy to bring power consumption down to 0 W. When traffic increases, the iSDU wakes the RF modules in minutes. The “0 Bit 0 Watt” capability, on-demand wakeup in minutes, and real-time user experience assurance are especially useful for emergency response during disasters such as earthquakes and fires. Test data from the Chengdu site shows that the iSDU reduces daily power consumption by 32.8%.
Intelligent O&M: The iSDU does not need a power and environment management system. The power cabinets and base stations operate using intelligent and visualized E2E management by the same network management system (NMS). iSDU improves base station service awareness for more efficient power supply and distribution. This eliminates unnecessary site visits, which reduces carbon emissions.
You Qi, a manager from the O&M center of China Mobile Chengdu, conducted a survey of the iSDU green site. He praised Huawei’s innovative solutions and expressed the need for further collaboration, “the old method of managing the power supply system and base station separately resulted in high O&M costs and difficulties. Now, the iSDU green site solution enables unified management of the power supply system and base station. This improves the site-wide O&M efficiency. Intelligent dormancy and on-demand wakeup enable a balance between energy conservation and user experience. We look forward to continuing to work with Huawei to develop more innovative solutions and enable green network development.”
Wang Xuefeng, Vice President of Huawei SingleRAN Product Line, said: “iSDU is another innovative application of Huawei’s Native Green concept, representing a new direction in site energy efficiency. Moving forward, Huawei will continue to innovate and optimize the unified management and intelligent dormancy and wakeup of the entire site. This will enable operators to construct green 5G networks and achieve the dual-carbon goals.”
