PRESS RELEASE: In June 2024, China Mobile Liaoning completed multi-cell networking across 100 sites in Shenyang, Liaoning using Huawei’s IntelligentRAN 5G-Advanced universal intelligent service processing units (5G-A UISPs), the first deployment of its kind in China. This deployment establishes Shenyang as a demonstration zone for base station native intelligence and marks a new phase in 5G-A native intelligence. 5G-A enables intelligent experience optimization, energy efficiency improvement, and O&M simplification.

China Mobile Liaoning and Huawei have deployed 5G-A UISPs in key cultural and tourist areas across the city, including the Shenyang Olympic Sports Center Stadium, Laobei Market, Sanhao Street, Northeastern University, and Shenyang MIXC shopping mall. These UISPs significantly enhance user experience by improving common services such as short videos and live streaming. They infuse service sensing into 5G-A base stations, enabling intelligent application-specific assurance based on service requirements. They can also predict services and transmit graphs in the time, frequency, and power domains. This facilitates multi-dimensional decision-making for better user experience and higher energy efficiency. In addition, these units support multi-site joint demodulation, which combines service experiences with geographical location data to create digital maps and experience sandboxes. Through precise service sensing and optimization in milliseconds, the UISPs have achieved significant improvements: an 11.8% increase in 1080p video viewing among short video users, a 10.1% decrease in latency issues for short video users, a 12% improvement in the user experience of live streaming, and an over 7% increase in live streamers with high-speed connections. Short video users can now access high-definition content anywhere, anytime. Meanwhile, live streamers can enjoy smoother streaming and have more engaging interactions with their viewers across China. This will allow Shenyang’s rich history and vibrant culture to be showcased to a wider audience and stimulate development of the city’s cultural and tourism sectors.

China Mobile Liaoning will continue working with Huawei to build intelligence-native 5G-A networks. Together, they will unlock new network capabilities and services that will stimulate growth in diverse sectors and accelerate the digital transformation of Liaoning Province.
