PRESS RELEASE: Recently, China Mobile Guangxi has commercially deployed Huawei’s LightSite Max, a cutting-edge digital indoor system (DIS) solution, in a 50-storey, over-155-meter residential building in Liuzhou, a city in Guangxi, which marks the first high-rise deployment of the solution in China. LightSite Max significantly enhances network coverage throughout the building, including previously uncovered elevators and underground parking areas, where users can now enjoy peak downlink speeds of up to 1.2 Gbps.

In 2024, China has been prioritizing enhancing network coverage in elevators and underground parking lots to improve social services. These areas, often the starting and finishing points of commutes, have a significant impact on people’s travel experiences. Continuous, high-quality network coverage is particularly important in elevators of ultra-high buildings, where passengers spend extended periods. Furthermore, as smart vehicles proliferate, underground parking lots are becoming data-traffic-intensive hubs, and need enhanced coverage to support advanced services, such as smart cockpits, remote over-the-air (OTA) updates, and automated valet parking (AVP), beyond basic QR code scanning and calling services.

In the past, providing cost-effective signal coverage for elevators in ultra-high buildings was a challenge due to the high deployment costs of wall-mounted antennas in elevator shafts and weak signal strength from conventional passive relay solutions. China Mobile Guangxi has addressed the challenge with Huawei’s LightSite Max solution — a new dual-channel headend with watt-level power — which supports one-off deployment of both 4G and 5G. It deployed headends and connected them to high-gain antennas installed at both ends of the elevator shafts, ensuring comprehensive coverage throughout each shaft. Additionally, it also combined the solution with distributed multiple-input multiple-output (D-MIMO) to deliver outstanding network performance for all six elevators and a two-storey underground parking lot in the residential building. Testing in these areas hit a peak downlink speed of over 1.2 Gbps and a peak uplink speed of over 170 Mbps. This high-speed connectivity enables smooth video streaming and lays the foundation for future smart vehicle-related services.

China Mobile Guangxi has been dedicated to all-scenario indoor network construction for years. Its commercial trial of LightSite Max in Liuzhou marks a first step towards enhanced coverage in all elevators and underground parking lots across Guangxi. Building on this success, it will continue to work with Huawei to develop more innovative network solutions for such indoor scenarios. Beyond indoor coverage, the operator will expand and improve connectivity across the region, leveraging local geographical advantages and favorable national policies. The long-term goal is to achieve universal access to digital services and drive rural development.
