PRESS RELEASE: ZTE Corporation has announced today its collaboration with China Mobile Beijing in pioneering the successful pilot of the innovative PON smart energy-saving solution in the existing network. This milestone marks a proactive implementation of both parties’ green broadband network development concept, aiming to jointly create a sustainable future.

As is well known, communication networks have a large number of devices, resulting in substantial energy consumption. In alignment with China’s “Dual-Carbon” strategy and China Mobile’s “C² Three Programs” to build a development model encompassing energy saving, clean energy, and industry enablement, China Mobile Beijing, in collaboration with ZTE, proposed the innovative “PON Smart Energy-Saving” solution. This model includes six green initiatives: green networks, green energy consumption, green supply chains, green offices, green enablement, and green culture.

This solution introduces intelligent analysis technologies to establish a smart energy-saving architecture, enabling the EMS to analyze, control, and evaluate current network resource configurations, energy-saving models, and strategies. This allows for local decision-making and automatic execution of NEs. By comprehensively considering factors affecting the energy consumption of OLTs, optimizing the power consumption of OLTs, and enabling low-carbon reconstruction through digital empowerment, the solution facilitates the achievement of the “dual-carbon” goal and gains a competitive advantage in the new situation.

This collaborative pilot initiative harnesses cutting-edge technologies to achieve the linkage between the EMS and the NEs. It intelligently controls the dynamic sleep and startup of OLTs based on changes in resource configurations within the existing network, and adjusts the operational status of the OLTs to achieve energy savings and emission reductions.

Based on the results of the pilot and the scale of OLTs deployed in the existing network, China Mobile Beijing anticipates substantial savings: a reduction of 427,000 kWh in electricity consumption, translating to a cost savings of RMB 427,000 in electricity bills, and a corresponding decrease in carbon emissions by approximately 132 tons. This pilot project will lay a solid foundation for China Mobile Beijing to enhance its green, low-carbon, and sustainable development initiatives.
