Telecompaper notes that the merger between KT and its mobile unit KTF has been approved by the Korea Communications Commission (KCC). The merger will create a company with KRW19 trillion (US$13.4 billion) in annual sales. KT and KTF will both hold shareholders meetings on 27 March, and the combined company will launch on 18 May. In approving its merger with KTF, the KCC ruled that KT should make its fixed-line and mobile broadband networks more accessible to rival operators and Internet companies, as well as speed up VoIP number portability requests.
