Reports suggest that T-Mobile USA will be the first operator to offer HTC's Desire

Apple is suing Taiwan’s HTC for alleged patent infringement, claiming the manufacturer of the Nexus One smartphone (based on Google’s Android platform) has violated patents related to the iPhone.

AP News reports that Microsoft said yesterday it has made a patent cross-licensing deal with Web retailer Amazon.com.

Device vendor HTC and Telefonica announced an exclusive deal at Congress this afternoon that aims to bring smartphone connectivity at an affordable price.

HTC further confirmed the momentum behind Android, and the company’s role as a main backer of the OS, with the announcement of two new handsets at today’s show.

Google’s new Nexus One smartphone will reportedly face competition from a cheaper, similarly-specced device tipped to be unveiled at the GSMA Mobile World Congress next week. According to reports, HTC – which also manufactures the Nexus One – is to launch a device called Bravo, which will cost around US$100 less than the Google device and will grant mobile operators more control.

Taiwan’s HTC - the world's fourth-largest smartphone vendor – expects revenue for the first quarter to rise by around 7 percent compared to a year ago, reports Reuters.
