Reuters notes that bookseller Barnes & Noble will soon sell its own electronic reader to rival Amazon.com's Kindle. Meanwhile Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer has ruled his company out of producing a similar device, according to reports.

Amazon today announced that its high-profile Kindle e-reader (pictured, left) will be available outside of the US from October 19. In a statement, Amazon touted the launch to more than 100 countries, priced at US$279. The Kindle Store offers over 200,000 English-language books, typically priced less than physical editions.
