One third of the winners in a hunt for new consumer health services have a strong mobile element. The contest was run by GE and Startup Health, an incubator for health technology firms.

Four of the thirteen winners use mobile technology explicitly in the summaries of what they do. Over 400 companies from all over the world originally applied to be part of the GE/Startup Health programme.

The four companies are Care at Hand, Caremerge, GetHealth and Gogohealth

The programme does not offer financial investment but instead backs the winners with mentoring, training and other support. In return, GE and Startup Health take a small equity stake in the companies.

Rafael Torres (pictured), senior managing director of GE’s healthymagination fund, said the companies “have the potential to make quality healthcare more accessible and affordable, and we are excited to work closely with them over the next three years to help them grow”.
