Standalone 5G Now Ready for Prime Time
Mobile operators are forecast to invest more than $1 trillion in 5G networks over the next five years. To recoup these huge investments, they need to be prepared to introduce a wide range of compelling services for both the consumer and enterprise segments.
This report explains how 5G is expected to have a bigger impact on businesses than consumers but requires far greater network flexibility. This will likely speed up the move to standalone (SA) in many markets, which will be supported as the broader ecosystem of devices and applications matures to take advantage of the technology’s features.
As of end-October, six operators deployed SA 5G networks globally, with another 11 announcing plans to do so. China operators are leading the charge to SA 5G. All new China Mobile base stations being rolled out are now the SA version, with existing NSA sites upgraded to dual-mode.
This white paper shares in-depth insight into:
- The state of global SA 5G deployments
- How to achieve seamless coverage and reach co-existence with existing 4G and NSA networks
- Using network slicing to change the business model from traffic management to differentiated services for vertical industries
- The pros and cons of taking an overlay approach vs a multi-mode one
- The benefits of deploying a dedicated 5G core for business-oriented services completely separate from consumer 5G services
