Huawei unveiled its ‘Agile IoT’ solution, which includes ‘LiteOS’, an Internet of Things operating system (OS) that the Chinese supplier claims is the lightest of its kind anywhere in the world, weighing in at a feathery 10KB.

LiteOS supports zero configuration, auto-discover and auto-networking. Together with the Agile IoT gateway and the Agile Controller, LiteOS makes up the complete Agile IoT portfolio.

Huawei said LiteOS could be applied to different areas, including smart homes, wearables, connected vehicles and other industries (as well as help simplify the development of smart hardware to enhance IoT connectivity).

Huawei added that LiteOS would be open to all developers, enabling them to “quickly develop” their own IoT products.

“Huawei believes that standardising ICT infrastructure will foster the development of Internet applications, including IoT applications,” said William Xu, Huawei’s CMO.

Xu was speaking at HNC2015 (Huawei Network Congress 2015), held in Beijing.

Yan Lida, president of Huawei Enterprise Business Group, said in his keynote speech that Huawei was also focused on developing “an industry application-oriented IoT ecosystem”, through collaborating with upstream and downstream partners, as part of its approach to develop and provide Business-driven ICT Infrastructure (BDII).

“BDII requires close business collaboration and joint innovation efforts between Huawei and our partners,” said Lida. “We have been involved in industry alliances, worked with standard organisations in the area of IoT, and established innovative research centres, open labs, and development communities to foster industry development.”

Huawei reckons the IoT market will comprise 100 billion connections by 2025, and two million new sensors will be deployed every hour.
